Dr Zakir Ahmed is a dermatologist, venereologist and allergologist with over 35 years of experience. He is a retired professor from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and a gazetted freedom fighter.
He graduated from Chittagong Medical College in 1978 and spent next few years gaining practical experience by working across different government health complexes with the last position being held as a clinical assistant (CA) in the Dermatology department of IPGMR (P.G Hospital) in 1983 for 2 years. He completed exhaustive training across various branches of dermatology and venereology and obtained a Diploma in Dermatology and Venereology (DDV) from Dhaka University in 1986.
As a professor of Dermatology, Dr. Zakir Ahmed has led more than 100 students as the subject matter expert to research on cutting-edge treatments and innovations in this field. He has authored 38 scientific peer-reviewed publications across both national and international journals.
He has attended many national and international seminars, conferences and symposiums to remain updated on the latest knowledge and best practices of his field. He is a lifetime member of Bangladesh Dermatology Society, Cancer Mission Foundation, Bangladesh Medical Association, Association of Physicians of Bangladesh as well as international organizations like European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology.
Dr. Zakir Ahmed is the Vice President of Bangladesh Olympic Association and has been the leading physician across global events such as Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and SAF Games for 30 years. As a sport physician, he has also acquired formal training and multiple certificates from Japan on Anti-doping.
Dr. Zakir Ahmed was present at the historic speech given by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the Ramna Rece Course on March 7th, 1971 and fought in the Liberation War. He was in Sector 1 Headquarter at Harina and got selected as an officer for second batch Army commission.
