Dr. Provat Kumar Podder

Dr. Provat Kumar Podder (Born in 1974) is a medical doctor and renowned Hepatologist of Bangladesh who is currently working as an Associate Professor at the Department of Hepatology in Sir Salimullah Medical College, Dhaka. Dr. Podder has completed his MBBS in 1999 from Sir Salimullah Medical College, Dhaka. After graduation he joined as a BCS (Health) cadre officer in 2003 and served in several Government Hospitals all across the country. Subsequently he obtained FCPS (Medicine) in 2008 from Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) and MD (Hepatology) in 2009 from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka.

Dr. Podder has gained wide range of advanced trainings in all modalities of Hepatology and has attended different live workshops and hands on training in Interventional Hepatology from home and abroad. Moreover, Dr. Podder gathered huge experience through his working tenure of more than 12 years at department of Hepatology in Sir Salimullah Medical College, Dhaka where he groomed himself up as one of the dependable Hepatologists of the country.

As an expert in interventional procedures Dr. Podder performed numerous cases of Endoscopy, Colonoscopy, Polypectomy, ERCP, Esophageal Stentings, Esophageal Band Ligation, Baloon Dilatation and clipings. He has a good hand on liver biopsy and invasive procedures of liver like - liver abscess aspiration, FNAC of liver sol, PAIR therapy, PEI for liver cancer etc. He has special interest and vast exposure to management of the patients with Liver Cirrhosis, Fatty Liver (NAFLD/NASH), Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Liver Cancer, Pancreatic and Hepatobiliary Diseases etc.

Dr. Podder is an Active member of Asian Pacific Association for the Study of Liver (APASL), South Asian Association for the Study of Liver (SAASL), European Association for Study of Liver (EASL) and Association for the Study of the Liver Diseases, Bangladesh (ASLDB).

Dr. Podder has participated in number of National & International seminars. He presented scientific papers and delivered lectures on different aspects of liver diseases including Fatty Liver (NAFLD/NASH), Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Liver Cirrhosis and Hepatocellular carcinoma in many forums and different medical societies of Bangladesh. He also chaired in session of several scientific programme and delivered his speech as panel of experts. He has number of scientific publications in national (10) and international (8) journals.

In his 24 years successful carrier of medical profession Dr. Podder served almost 20 years in Government service and more than 15 years as teacher at different Government Medical Colleges. He is thesis and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). He is also an Examiner at  Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for MD and at University of Dhaka for MBBS.
