Prof. Pran Gopal Datta, Former Vice-Chancellor and Professor, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka. He completed his MBBS degree from Chittagong Medical College in 1976. In 1981 he completed MS (Otolaryngology) from Odessa State Medical Institute, Russia (the then USSR). In 1983 he obtained his PhD from Kiev Scientific and Research Institute, Russia (the then USSR) and MSc (Audiological Medicine) from Manchester University, UK.
He has done specialized training in Microsurgery of ENT from Tuebingen University, HNO KLINK, German and Audiological Medicine from Great Britain.
Dr. Pran Gopal Datta join at Chittagong Medical College Hospital in 1977. After that, he served as Registrar, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor in various medical colleges. He served as Professor, Chairman, and Treasurer in ENT Department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University from 1999 to 2009. He was Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University for two consecutive years from 2009 to 2015.
Dr. Pran Gopal Datta was awarded the country's highest civilian award "Shadinata Padak" in 2012, for his glorious contribution to medical science. He was also awarded the "Leading Health Professionals of the World Award", "BMA Padak", "Bangladesh Sishu Bandhu Padok" in 2011 for outstanding contribution to medical science. He also received many other awards for his contribution to medical science.
He has around 71 publications in national and international journals. He is life member of Bangladesh Diabetic Association, Abulia Charitable Dispensary, Society for Assistance to Hearing Impaired Children, Bangladesh National Society for the Blind, Bangladesh Medical Association, Society of Otolaryngology & Head Neck Surgery of Bangladesh, and Chandina Thana Association & Comilla Zilla Association. He was president of the Association of Universities of Bangladesh. He is President of Society of Otolaryngology and Head Neck Surgery of Bangladesh. He was appointed as Advisor to WHO in 2020 for Society for Sound Hearing.
He was Veteran Freedom Fighter in the
Liberation War of Bangladesh 1971 in Mujib Bahini (Bangladesh
Liberation Front - BLF under Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani).
