Dr. Rokaya Sultana Ruma is an Associate Professor in the Clinical Oncology Department at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Shahbag, Dhaka—the premier institution for medical professionals in Bangladesh.

Dr. Rokaya was born and raised in the Kurigram district. She completed her MBBS degree at Mymensingh Medical College, Mymensingh, and later earned her prestigious MD in Oncology from BSMMU.

Her early career includes work as a Medical Officer in Bhurungamari, Nageshwari, and at the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH). She also served as a Resident Surgeon at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. She joined the BCS Health Cadre in 2008 and provided dedicated patient care before transitioning to BSMMU.

Dr. Rokaya has undergone advanced training in Radiation Oncology in South Korea and India. She has participated in numerous national and international scientific conferences, delivering presentations and receiving awards, including recognition for her thesis at the Federation of Asian Organizations for Radiation Oncology (FARO) conference in Bengaluru, India.

She currently serves as the Scientific Secretary of the Bangladesh Society of Radiation Oncologists (BSRO) and is also an active member of the Bangladesh Cancer Society (BCS), the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO), and the European Society for Radiation Oncology (ESTRO).

On a personal note, Dr. Rokaya is blessed with two daughters, and her husband is a chest physician.

Her goal is to be an exemplary clinical oncologist, committed to serving cancer patients across Bangladesh. Dr. Rokaya is highly skilled in managing cancer patients, from early detection through various treatment modalities, including chemotherapy, hormone therapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and all forms of radiotherapy (such as 2D, 3DCRT, IMRT, IGRT, VMAT, SBRT, SRS) based on the patient's needs. Her areas of special interest include female malignancies—particularly breast and cervical cancers—as well as colorectal, lung, CNS, head and neck, and urogenital cancers.
