Professor Dr. Shahin Ara Begum graduated from Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital, Barisal in 1984.

After graduation, she joined in Sher-E-Bangla Medical College as in-service trainee and worked there for one year. She joined as Medical Officer in Upazila Sadar Health Complex of Jhalokathi and also worked as Medical Officer in TB Hospital Barisal and Dhaka Medical College. In 1999 she completed MPH course from NIPSOM. Then she completed her MPhil (Microbiology) course and developed her career in the field of Microbiology. In 2006 she joined as Lecturer in the Microbiology Department of Dhaka Medical College. She was Promoted as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor in the Department of Microbiology of Dhaka Medical College where she worked for the last Sixteen years till 2019.
